Practical Training: Child Malnutrition The Gambia
for experiential learning, with skills developed during the experience of direct benefit to their career in development. Working in the Gambia, participants will spend six weeks addressing social development issues within local communities. Participants will be involved in the design and implementation of a development project aimed at reducing child malnutrition. Working through the process of the project cycle using a sustainable and inclusive bottom-up approach to development, they will gain experience in planning, management, monitoring and project evaluation. Whilst the learning experience is of value to participants, local communities will ultimately be the key beneficiaries; with improved facilities allowing for increased levels of food production for children.
Aim
“To develop the skills and knowledge needed to design and implement an appropriate development response to issues concerning poverty in least developed countries.”
Participants
The course is aimed towards students and graduates of the social sciences, and anyone with a keen interest in international development. Some prior understanding of international development is suggested so as to encourage maximum learning outcomes. Participants will under-go a selection process, involving, in part, a UK based trial training day.
