Rights & Advocacy

CARLA International aims to give individuals and communities the tools and support they need to actively advocate for their social and economic rights. It involves helping to challenge the power structures which determine who make the decisions, whose voice is heard, and what issues are prioritised at the government and statutory level.

Through a rights based approach CARLA International aims to address the inequalities, discriminatory practices and unjust power relations that are often at the heart of development problems,  in turn, promoting a more sustainable approach to development where everybody’s voice is heard.

Poverty is the pronounced deprivation of wellbeing. To be poor is to be hungry, to lack shelter and clothing, to be sick and not cared for, to be illiterate and not schooled. But for many people living in poverty, it is more than this. Due to inequality, discrimination and unjust power relations many individuals and communities are subjected to adverse events outside their control, leaving them poor and vulnerable.
